Story of Conant Custom Brass
Conant Custom Brass
was founded in 1979 by Steve Conant, then a 23-year old with a passion for metalwork. Working from his small single-car garage, illuminated by two fluorescent shop lights, Steve soon established a reputation as a preeminent craftsman with a knack for restoration and custom metal work. What started from humble beginnings quickly became known as “The World’s Finest Collection of Weather Instruments.” Conant Custom Brass products are marked by their:
- Inspired designs: All of our instruments are original designs – inspired by our reverence for the weather instruments and time pieces that graced fine homes of prior generations. Using the best materials available, these products combine traditional elegance with accuracy for a great value. Modern technology has enlightened and enhanced our use of traditional techniques, enabling us to provide new and different solutions and ever-increasing value for our customers.
- Living finish: We do not apply a protective coating to our products because no coating will last as long as the raw material itself. Like many instruments of the past, these products will stand the test of time. You can be sure that since we do not plate, paint or coat these products, they won’t peel, flake or rust. Our products start with a lightly antiqued finish. Within a few months’ exposure to the elements they begin to age gracefully and develop a warm brown patina. All Conant Custom Brass products have a “living finish” that continues to enhance their genuine beauty for years to come. A verdigris finish like the one pictured may take up to 20 years to attain depending on the local environmental conditions.
- Lifetime guarantee: If the performance of any Conant Custom Brass product ever falls short of your expectations, we will do everything possible to restore your confidence. All our products are guaranteed to provide a lifetime of service and value.
Conant Custom Brass became a part of the Weems and Plath family of products in the spring of 2008. President Peter Trogdon felt that, "The values of quality, service and innovation were common cornerstones of both companies" and it was a great match. Conant Custom Brass' innovative weather instruments include a full line of attractive brass thermometers, rain gauges and other outdoor products that will complement the marine instruments that Weems & Plath, now over 80 years old, is well known for.
