Troubleshooting Guide for Quartz Clocks (excluding Quartz Ship’s Bell Clocks)
If clock stops or is not keeping proper time:
- Remove battery and inspect contact points. Remove battery corrosion if present using fine sand paper or dry paper towel.
- Install a fresh alkaline battery
- Make certain battery is not in backwards
- Inspect time set knob to insure no obstruction exists
- Be sure battery makes contact with + and – terminals.
- If necessary remove and replace battery and then rotate battery while in place.
DO
- Always use the proper size battery (1.5 volts)
- Use alkaline batteries in most quartz clocks. NOTE: We recommend using Lithium batteries in Quartz Ship’s Bell Clocks)
- Replace battery on a regular schedule such as in the Spring or Fall with time changes (at least annually)
DON’T
- Never leave battery in clock when in storage or not in use for extended periods of time. Clock movements continue to draw energy from dead batteries which can leak and cause corrosion, often spreading to the circuit board. A new movement will be required if this happens. Battery corrosion is not covered under warranty.
- Never disassemble the clock movement as this will invalidate any possible warranty.
- Never lubricate or insert oil in clock movement.
- Never change the time by moving the hour or minute hands manually. Always use set knob on back of movement, moving it in a counter-clockwise direction, which moves the hands clockwise.
